Star Control: Origins
« on: October 04, 2018, 01:21:40 pm »
I picked up this game and gave it a whirl.

If you liked Star Control 2, you will dig it.
Game play is very similar with the quests, exploration, ship upgrades.
The developer didn't get the rights to the old races like the Spathi, Yehat, Urquan, etc. but the new ones they came up with are all pretty good.

Really enjoying it.

That's funny. *Game is subtitled Origins. Doesn't have rights to the original material*

I read a few articles about the lawsuit and it is hard to find a good guy in that situation.

As to the game,
I have gotten pretty far into it and met most if not all of the alien races.
My favorite part of the original was the awesome aliens you get to meet.

This one did a great great job of matching that. There are some tributes, some funny tongue in cheek flat out ripoffs of the original, and a bunch of originals that really shine.
I am kind of glad he didn't win the lawsuit so his team had to stretch their imagination and fill the void left by those proprietary species they didn't get the rights to.
