On the old Slapper there was a thread that asked for favorite Slapper quotes/moments, and Pyl's "gay blade" comment was my entry.  Great memories.

(SOL) Navy Public Forum / World War II Online - Steam Release
« on: July 18, 2017, 08:38:02 pm »
I just saw that World War II Online is going to be released on Steam this summer.  Wow...what nostalgia to see that title pop up.  It is "free to play" now.

I know I have not been on much lately...hope everyone is doing well.  3 kids with soccer, lacrosse, basketball, etc. is pretty much consuming my time.  That, and my sons now play video games as well, so computer time gets rationed between the 3 of us.

Anyway, thought I would throw that out there about World War II Online...maybe nostalgia would result in some of us giving it a go again.

It looks like an enhanced MWO to me...it makes sense to use code and graphics they already have...and the mech computer voice is from MWO...considering it is pre-alpha, I thought it looked really cool...

Awesome!  Thanks for sharing!

It will be interesting to see if you can mine "solo," however.  For those of us that have purchased the mining ship, it would be a total bummer to try to beg people to guard you every time you want to try your luck.  Most people will have their own things to do and will not want to always guard the miners...or haulers for that matter.  Perhaps you can hire NPC guards, but they will not be as effective.  We'll see what happens.

If SC doesn't solve for casual (aka I do it by myself 30 minutes at a time) versus the hardcore (I'll round up 5 friends to work together for 5 hours) player the game will not do well.  The rewards for any task should be balanced against the effort, but all play styles should have access to all most game content.

Couldn't agree more.

I honestly don't think I'll get back to a lot of consistent nightly gaming time until my kids are out of the house and maybe not even then.  Thankfully SC won't be done and released until 2028, so I should have plenty of time at release (ZING!!).  I've come to accept the reality of my limited gaming time.  It is ultimately my choice and I choose RL versus gaming and I don't regret it.  With that being said, I do miss the nightly gaming and hanging out on TS.  Maybe SN members will all reunite and play as we did in the our younger days, but we will all be old men/women at that point.  We'll jump on TS and complain about the young punks ruining gaming and how in our day it was different.  That will be fun!

LOL...all points so true.

It was cool, but I agree with Durntron that some things might begin to become tedious (e.g., airlocks, elevators, back-tracking back to the hangar, etc.).  I am also a bit turned off by how many shots it takes to kill a guy...thought combat would be far more lethal.  I know the enemy was wearing heavy armor...overall though, it was really cool and shows a lot of progress.  I enjoyed the voice work and expressions of Eckhart, and appreciated the moral choices around whether to attack the pirate facility.  I found myself thinking I would likely play the game from a "lawful good" perspective when given choices like that.

Nice write-up!  This movie has intrigued me since I saw a trailer for it.  I am more likely to check it out with your recommendation.

The whole Landmark thing was handled poorly as well.  I thought I was buying access to EQ Next, and that was not the case.  I guess it doesn't matter now anyway.

My computer is down right now.  Hard drive died, so having a Samsung EVO 1TB drive installed and will upgrade to Windows 10.  Pissed about not being able to play.  Any other PC players joined from SN?
