Might & Magic X Legacy
« on: January 24, 2014, 11:13:25 am »
http://store.steampowered.com/app/238750/

Just got this yesterday.  I'm really liking it so far.  It is a very retro style of RPG.  If you've played the Might & Magic RPG's from the late 80's and early 90's then you will be right at home with this game.

Movement is grid-based, similar to Legend of Grimrock.  However, unlike LoG's quasi-realtime combat, combat in MMX is strictly turn-based.  You can't juke away from monsters like you can LoG.

Also, unlike LoG, there is more of an emphasis on exploration rather solving puzzles.  You can actually go into towns and buy gear and there is an overworld to explore.

Anyway, just thought I'd give my thoughts on it in case anyone else was thinking about getting it.  I know there are a lot of us old guys on here that appreciate classic gaming.  I recommend watching some gameplay videos on YouTube to make sure it is your cup of tea.

If you decide to get it, I recommend the Adventurer difficulty.  This game also brings back a lot of old school difficulty.  Adventurer is plenty challenging.  Warrior difficulty is a good lesson in masochism.

I like the style. I prefer the turn based combat for games like this too... that's the thing that kept me from playing Legend of Grimlock. I also like the de-emphasis on puzzles. I don't mind some puzzles, but when "puzzle" is just a euphemism for "run around clicking on any off colored background graphic to find a hidden switch" I'm not as keen.

I added to my wish list yesterday, but since it's supposed to be -20 this weekend and I don't have a working furnace, I think I better get that taken care of before I spend money on games.

Sounds good Bannta! As long as you don't mind several cats and a couple of ferrets joining in...

Always buy ferrets in pairs. Well, you can get two separately, but you should always have two. The little buggers are so social, that keeping just one can actually result in them dying of loneliness. Unless you spend a lot of time with them anyway. Plus, you should always have a backup when Bannta is around.

pyldrvr,
please add "Ferrets and Ferret" to the cuss word filter. I believe I speak for everyone that we don't need to hear that kind of language on the forums.

Thanks
Love Bannta

I was considering one to hang out with my cats. I hear they get along pretty well and if they are a Bannta ward as well, double win

If it's a young cat, you should be golden.

Older cats... yeah, no so much. Most adult cats that have never met a ferret seem to have a panic attack and freak out. Cats that meet ferrets when they are kittens love to play with them though, and sometimes even seem to think they're ferrets (crawling into their nests, eating their food, pooping in their litter box)

Do ferrets need to be caged, or can they be allowed to roam like cats?

Odd, I have seen Bannta pooping in my Cat's Litter box.

Ferrets can be allowed to roam like cats, but you have to be a bit more careful ferret proofing. And they are a little less accurate with litter boxes. I usually keep mine in a big cage at night and let them run around when I'm home. They will crawl up into a fridge and weird places like that to sleep if they can get in, which often costs them their life when the motor kicks on.

They are in no way rodents. They are predators, but ones that forgot that fact. They run and wrestle in middle of the floor, pounce on your feet, and then run around and drag anything under about 1 pound to a stash spot.

Was quickly reading and thought it said 1 pound stash of pot.  :excited:
