His corpse is just straight up hanging in the workshop and Tolyiko just left the guild (possibly unrelated), but I had to ask - who hung the man?

Okay, for those of you on the fence - the game itself is GREAT. The core mechanics and such are fun, as well as the potential for PVP. For the price right now, it shouldn't even be a question - you'll get $25 of value, easy.

The game DOES have some flaws and some things that need to be fixed/adjusted, so be aware that the experience isn't perfect and adjust your expectations accordingly.

Oh yeah, the hair! You start out bald and your hair naturally grows over time.

Okay, so. I never played Ark but I've done a few survival games... they are great at giving you little to go on and early game is basic survival; with the added bonus of having to fight off a bunch of twats because we entered the game in a lawless zone, which I am pretty sure is going it hardmode.

When you drop in you're going to want to unlock 'the basics' as fast as you can to get some tool crafting opened up; luckily, punching things does this job fairly well as well as picking up pretty much everything you can.

You'll want to punch a tree for 6 wood, first off. Note that the items have a 'name - type' designation; the name is not important as far as I can tell, it is the typing which dictated crafting. Scour the ground for spare rocks and grab fiber from some bushes; this will make your first pickaxe and get you going.

Tools are repairable, just right click for the menu.

Water is a sort of minigame, you have to go prone with X and 'punch' the dirt to dig around for a spring. Haven't figured out how to fill a waterskin yet, but drinking is simple enough.

Animal meat is cooked simply by leaving it in a lit campfire - seems to go a bit slow, though...

Torches are effective weapons; they actually light enemies on fire - seems to be more damaging than the spear, which seems to be a ranged weapon and is considered disposable, thus it breaks quickly and isn't repairable.

Also, I figured out how to make a company (Guild), but held off on doing so - wanted to leave that honor to Pyl or Valen.

Rolling the dice and paying for early access games is pretty standard now. It's the only way for small gaming companies to compete with the goliaths.

Don't get me wrong, I intend to get it; $30 isn't bad enough to mind. But that doesn't make it above reproach.

Why Early Access?
“ATLAS is one of the most ambitious online worlds of all time and while everything we have listed in the feature section will be there around Early Access launch, we are going to need the feedback, insight, and creativity of the game players to build on that foundation and balance the game optimally over a period of time.”

I'm just curious how they intend to receive said feedback without an official forum and seemingly no PR people on social media.

This is less 'gameplay trailer' and more 'in-game staged tour'; no UI or HUD, little information on how any of the systems work and the blatant flyover POV shots. NONE of this looks like actual gameplay footage to me.

I'll play it, don't get me wrong... but I see red flags. If they pull it off despite what looks like a slew of management issues, it'll be an amazing game.

Early access for the next two years. This isn't the official launch of a finished game.

I mean, doesn't that lend even more credence to the concern? Their stated reasons for Early Access are for communication and feedback purposes - how do they intend to do that without an official forum?

Looks like launch is delayed until Friday, now :(

Ehhhhh...

So, while waiting I noticed that this company has no website. How do they plan on handling ingame/account issues? Steam and social media platforms do not work for this. Also, they reeeaaally suck at communication.

I think there's only 4 servers to start. 2 in USA and 2 in Europe. One PVP and one PVE for each. So, that leaves us with only one choice. I think it'll be 30+ gig download and you need 100+gigs free on your HDD.

So, PVP then?
uhmmm… of course?

You gotta be clear about these things, old man! You've been getting old - losing that edge. Might be turning carebear on us, who knows?

Ahhh. Not enough room. Looks like a quick trip to Florida to get my PC. Guess where I left it? 10 miles west of Panama City. Can you say, lucky?

...I mean, I could grab it for you?
